Join us for a two day Felt Hat Blocking Workshop in our Orange County studio where you will make your own fur felt hat from start to finish. In this private workshop, students will learn the techniques of hat blocking, including: manipulating the felt on wooden hat forms, wiring the brim, finishing hats to the appropriate head size, and basic trimming techniques. 

Classes are scheduled over 2 days,

• Day 1 - We will work with you to choose the shape and style of hat you would like to create and walk you through the process of blocking the felt on a wooden hat forms. The process takes about 2 - 2.5 hours.

• Day 2 - We will work with you to finish your hat including, wiring the edge of the brim, hand sewing in a head size ribbon, fitting the hat to your head size and trimming the outside of your hat with a ribbon band. The process takes about 3 - 3.5 hours

All materials to block and trim your hat are included in the price of the class. Once you have booked the class, we will reach out to you to schedule the class dates and choose your felt color and texture.

Our studio is equipped with industrial sewing machines but students have the option to bring a personal, home sewing machine to learn the process of hat finishing on a machine they are familiar and comfortable working on (so you can continue on your hat making journey from home). 

This class is designed for more advanced sewers, hand and machine sewing skills are required to finish your hat.
